This year, the mens part of the US Open series is composed of 6 tournaments. Let’s take a closer look at them.

1. Atlanta Tennis Championships

Date: July 19 – 25
Place: Atlanta, Georgia
Category: ATP 250
Prize Money: $ 531,000
Last year winner: N/A

This is a new place this year and many players are looking forward to it. The top favorite for this tournament is surely Andy Roddick who was given the wild card for the last moment. Even if this tournament was not on the ATP calendar before, Andy already has one title from Atlanta champ. However, at this time (2001) the tournament was played on clay.

2. Farmers Classic

Date: July 26 – August 1
Place: LA, California
Category: ATP 250
Prize Money: $ 619,500
Last year winner: Sam Querrey

This tournament is preffered mainly by American players or American residents. Even if the category is just ATP 250 I am sure there will be a good tennis as for Americans hard is a favorite surface and they like playing on it.

3. Legg Mason Tennis Classic

Date: August 2 – 8
Place: Washington, DC
Category: ATP 500
Prize Money: $ 1,165,500
Last year winner: Juan Martin del Potro

As we are heading off US Open, the tournaments are becoming more and more interesting and prize money are increasing as well. It is probable that more of top 20 players will be compete here as this is the last rehearsal before Masters tournaments.

4. Rogers Masters

Date: August 9 – 15
Place: Toronto, Canada
Category: ATP Masters 1000
Prize Money: $ 2,430,000
Last year winner: Rafael Nadal

Great city, great atmosphere, many fans. That’s Canada Masters. It is also the first US Open Series Masters of this year. There is no doubt there will be all of the top ATP players here (if they are in good physical condition) as lots of points and also lots of money will be distributed at this place.

5. Western & Southern Financial Group Masters

Date: August 16 – 22
Place: Cincinnati, Ohio
Category: ATP Masters 1000
Prize Money: $ 2,430,000
Last year winner: Roger Federer

Another masters series tournament. Defending champ is Roger Federer and I hope he will be playing as good as last year since this was very good performance from him last year in Cinci.

6. Pilot Pen Tennis

Date: August 22 – 28
Place: New Haven, Connecticut
Category: ATP 250
Prize Money: $ 663,750
Last year winner: Fernando Verdasco

The last tournament before US Open. Some players will probably try to upgrade their form in Yale, however the top players will be resting and prepare individually for the last grandslam of the year.
